Long Course:

PGDST (Post Graduate Diploma in Software Technology)

PGDST is a part-time postgraduate course and is of one-year duration. The course provides a good foundation in programming, along with a strong foundation in key computer science areas including database management, object oriented programming, and computer networking.

Admission to PGDST is through a nation-wide Competence in Software Technology (CST) examination, held once a year. The examination has two papers - general aptitude and computer concepts.

Primary Objectives of the PGDST Programme :-

The software professionals of today face challenges that earlier generations did not. We live and work in an era of rapidly growing and shifting paradigms, constantly posed with the task of keeping pace with the growth and changes.

The PGDST educational programme of NCST is designed to prepare the participant to deal with situations in which things threaten to change faster than one can assimilate them. The approach adopted has evolved over a number of years. This approach primarily ensures that the participant:

learns the basics of our craft in this field of software technology,
is provided with the best foundation for a good software professional, that is, a solid knowledge of those things that underpin every development technology, no matter how different or how advanced, and
is equipped with the capabilities to understand the fundamentals irrespective of the programming methodology, language, the development platform, the software tools, etc.

PGDST course has been successfully conducted at VIT for academic year 2000-01 , 2001-02, 2002-03 and 2003-04. Batch of 2004-05 will be completing in 22^nd June 2005 and PGDST 2005-06 will commence on 29^th June 2005.

Short Course:

CIT (Certificate in Information Technology)

VIT has also started its own Certificate in Information Technology (CIT) course. This is a 2 month part-time course. This course was initially started to train the Goa University staff and their staff members but has been successful in attracting candidates from outside the campus as well. Already four batches have completed the training program. The course covers Introduction to Computers, Window 98 Operating System, MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-Powerpoint and Internet.
