Introduction:

Virtual Institute for Training (VIT) is a registered society, established in the year 1999 to supplement the activities of Goa University in Education, Research and Training. Primary focus of VIT is to train manpower in the area of Information Technology by offering non-formal courses. Goa University received a one-time grant of Rs. 25 lakhs from Government of Goa towards establishment of the society on the University Campus. A clear mandate has been given to VIT to generate its own resources by offering services. VIT has entered into a MoU with Goa University for space & other infrastructural facilities. It also operates in close association with the University Department of Computer Science & Technology, and the faculty members of the department regularly teach the courses offered at VIT. From June 2000 VIT is offering Post Graduate Diploma in Software Technology (PGDST), one-year part time progrmme in Software Technology in collaboration with the National Centre for Software Technology (NCST), R & D institute under the purview of Ministry of Information Technology, Govt. of India.In addition it conducts various workshops and seminars of short duration for local software industry.

Objectives:

To undertake in a selective and time bound manner, Education, Training and Research in the field of Information Technology, including on-line courses and related programmes.
To facilitate and promote specific actions and programmes in the area of computer software technology.
To evolve strategies and conduct,co-ordinate and support research and development efforts in IT.
To build up and mobilize high quality man power in Information Technology.
To develop stronger and closer relations with Goa University for joint activities of IT, AdvancedComputing, Electronics & Telematics.
To propagate and nurture advanced computing culture on the Goa University campus at all levels.
To generate funds through,consultancy, royalties, endowments, donations, grants, development contract etc.
